SSI: Canadian Towable Sales Down 5.4% in Aug.

Year-over-year Canadian towable sales declined 5.4% in August and 13% for the first eight months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector dipped 3.3% in August and 10.3% year-to-date.
• Canadian fifth-wheel sales declined 12.7% for the month and 23.4% through August.
• Folding camping trailer registrations were down 7.7% in August and showed an 11.7% decline year-to-date.
• Park model RVs fell 47.1% in August on low volume and fell 61% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through August with a 55.7% market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. which held a 34.3% share. SSI noted that towable sales by Jayco Inc. were included in totals for Thor, which acquired the company on July 1.
Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the eight months, posting a 56.9% market share, followed by Forest River (33.6%) and Gulf Stream Coach Inc. (2.5%).
Thor was also No. 1 in Canadian fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 57.6% market share, followed by Forest River (30.2%) and Grand Design (7.3%).
Forest River led year-to-date Canadian folding camping trailer sales with a 64.2% market share while Thor posted a 27.7% share. Woodland Park Inc. led the park model segment through August with a 41.5% market share while Forest River was No. 2 with a 22% share followed by Cavco Industries Inc. (12.2%)
